Vid Belec

Vid Belec embodies the loneliest job on the pitch. A 192 cm goalkeeper from Maribor, he ended up guarding the net for APOEL in Cyprus, far from home. I have always felt keepers are unfairly judged: outfield players get the applause for goals, while a single error follows a goalkeeper for years. Staying calm under that weight takes a rare kind of nerve, and choosing responsibility over glamour says a lot about character. The saves that quietly rescue a team never show up neatly in the stats, and that is precisely where I think his real worth lives. A steady, unsung guardian.
