William Gallas

What I find compelling about William Gallas is not just the trophy-laden career across Chelsea, Arsenal, France's national side, and a globe-trotting finale in Australia, but the quiet second act. A defender of his stature and pedigree could have drifted into punditry; instead he is coaching youth football in Hungary, far from the spotlight. To me that signals a genuine love of the craft rather than the fame. I respect players who stay close to the grass and the grind, passing on hard-won lessons to kids who may never know how good he once was. That, more than any medal, defines him for me.
