Yuma Fukumoto

Yuma Fukumoto is one of those guys whose story hits harder than his stats do. He grew up in Asuka, Nara — ancient capital vibes, population tiny — and hit 45 home runs in high school at Chiben Gakuen, batting cleanup in every game of the 2016 Senbatsu tournament as a second-year. He went on to Osaka University of Commerce, kept hitting, and got drafted in the sixth round by the Chunichi Dragons in 2021. I find that path fascinating. He's had shoulder trouble and is still grinding his way up from the farm system, but honestly, the fact that he's even here feels like the whole point of his story.
