My Take
I have a soft spot for the kid-from-the-sticks-makes-good arc, and Tatsuya Imai delivers it. Out of Kanuma in Tochigi, he carried Sakushin Gakuin to a summer national title at Koshien, which is basically the holy grail of Japanese high school ball, and he did it as the ace with a fastball that just seems to climb on hitters. What I love is that he didn't flame out as a teen hero. He turned into a real rotation arm at the pro level, which is a totally different grind. He's got that deceptively mild, easygoing look until the moment matters, then the eyes go cold and competitive. Honestly that switch is my favorite thing about him. A genuine power pitcher from Tochigi. Just stay healthy and keep firing, please.
