Al B. Sure!

Al B. Sure! belongs to a sound I have a lot of affection for. Born in Boston in 1968 and raised in Mount Vernon, New York, he was one of the defining voices of new jack swing during its late-1980s and early-1990s peak, that silky blend of R&B and hip-hop rhythm. What draws me to him is the refusal to stay in one lane: singer, songwriter, producer, radio host, actor. People who keep reinventing their craft tend to age well, and his move into radio tells me the creative engine never stopped. Music that captures a moment this precisely simply does not fade.
