Amaury Nolasco

Amaury Nolasco is one of those actors who sneaks up on you — you might not know his name right away, but the second you see him you go "oh, that guy." Born on Christmas Eve in Vieques, a tiny island off Puerto Rico, he carved out a real Hollywood career against considerable odds, and the role that put him on the map was Fernando Sucre on Prison Break. Sucre was the heart of that show — loyal, funny, desperate in the best way — and Nolasco played him with a warmth that kept you rooting for him through four chaotic seasons plus the 2017 revival. He held his own against Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell, which is no small thing. His Transformers cameo showed he could work a blockbuster set too. For a Puerto Rican actor breaking through in mid-2000s Hollywood, the hustle it took to get there deserves way more credit than he usually gets.
