My Take
Amélie Mauresmo earns my deep respect not just for reaching world No. 1, but for what she did afterward. Her elegant one-handed backhand made her a joy to watch, yet her second act, coaching top male players and running a Grand Slam, impresses me even more. Staying inside the competitive arena long after retirement takes a rare kind of nerve. The Legion of Honour, the Hall of Fame, the National Order of Merit, all of it signals a nation that genuinely treasures her. To me she is proof that a great athlete can become an even greater leader.
