My Take
Anderson .Paak is one of those rare artists where you genuinely can't figure out how one person fits that much talent into a single body. He sings, raps, produces, and plays drums — live, behind his own kit, with the energy of someone who has something to prove. Growing up in Oxnard, California, which is nobody's idea of a glamour city, clearly gave him an edge and a hunger that bleeds into every groove he lays down. His Malibu album from 2016 felt like a revelation — soul, funk, hip-hop, all tangled together in a way that sounded both classic and completely fresh. Teaming up with Silk Sonic alongside Bruno Mars was the kind of move that proved he can own any era he steps into. Multiple Grammy wins later, he still looks like the guy who can't quite believe how far Oxnard carried him, and honestly, neither can I.
