My Take
Angela Bettis is, to me, one of horror's most underrated treasures. Her turns as Carrie White and especially the title role in May (2002) show an actress willing to inhabit loneliness and instability with unsettling honesty rather than vanity. The Sitges Best Actress award she earned feels entirely deserved. What I admire most is that she never chased the spotlight; she also directs and writes, approaching the craft like a quiet artisan. In an industry that rewards visibility, her preference for substance over fame makes her work age beautifully. I'd take a Bettis performance over a star turn any day.
