Anton du Beke

Anton du Beke strikes me as the rare specialist who became a generalist without diluting himself. Ballroom dancing is an unforgiving discipline, and the posture, patience, and showmanship it demands seem to power everything else he does — presenting, writing, singing, judging. His long run on Strictly Come Dancing, evolving from professional dancer to judge, tells me British audiences trust him in a way that cannot be faked. I am especially struck by his partnership with Erin Boag since 1997; loyalty that long is its own credential in show business. A Sevenoaks-born gentleman who proves that mastering one art opens doors to all the others.
