My Take

What stays with me about Bonnie Tyler is that voice, gravel and grace in equal measure. Plenty of singers have technique, but almost none carry that lived-in rasp that makes every lyric sound like a hard-won confession. I admire that she came up from Skewen, broke through with Lost in France in the late seventies, and simply kept going on her own terms for half a century, earning an OBE along the way. She never chased trends; she let an utterly unmistakable instrument do the talking. To me she is proof that a singular sound, fully owned, outlasts any fashion.
