My Take
Carla Bruni fascinates me precisely because she refuses to be pinned down. Most people would kill for one of her careers; she casually stacked three, gliding from supermodel runways to whispery, guitar-driven chanson to the Elysee Palace as France's first lady. What I admire most is the unhurried, almost amused detachment she carries through all of it. Her music isn't a vanity project either, those breathy, literate songs genuinely hold up. Add the Officer of Arts and Letters honor and you have a real artist who happens to be glamorous, not the other way around. That balance is rare and quietly impressive.
