My Take

What grabs me about Charmaine Fong is the gap between the dry label and the real artist. Beyond being an actress, she is a Cantopop singer-songwriter who writes her own material, and in 2019 she used her song Explicit Content to state her position on Hong Kong's protests in plain words. In an industry that punishes performers for political honesty, that took real spine.
