Cheran

Cheran is exactly the kind of artist I root for. Born in Madurai, he writes, directs, and acts across Tamil cinema, racking up four National Film Awards and a shelf of Filmfare honors. What draws me in is not the trophy count but the temperament: a storyteller who grounds his films in ordinary human dignity rather than spectacle. Winning state awards for dialogue and story as well as direction, he strikes me as a self-possessed craftsman. I have real respect for multi-hyphenates who stay humble and just keep making honest, deeply rooted work.
