My Take
China Forbes is, to me, one of the great unsung voices of modern cosmopolitan pop. As the longtime lead of Pink Martini, she sings across languages and traditions with a warmth that never feels like a gimmick, and her Harvard background hints at the intelligence underpinning that ease. I find it telling that her 2022 Ella Fitzgerald Award at the Montreal Jazz Festival came after decades of steady, generous work rather than viral fame. There is a grounded richness to her tone that lets her float over any melody without losing herself. She is exactly the kind of artist I wish more people knew by name.
