My Take
Coccinelle fascinates me less as a cabaret star and more as a quiet revolutionary. Born in 1931 Paris, she became the first widely publicized European celebrity to undergo gender reassignment, and she did it in an era with no roadmap and no safety net. What strikes me is how she carried that weight while still dazzling audiences with song and stage presence. I think her real artistry was living openly as herself when doing so was dangerous. She turned her own existence into an act of courage, and decades later her name still feels like a lit beacon for people finding their way.
