Colin Montgomerie

Colin Montgomerie fascinates me precisely because of what he never won. Eight European Tour Order of Merit titles, including seven straight, is a record of staggering consistency, and his Ryder Cup nerve was legendary. Yet he never claimed a PGA Tour victory or a major, and that gap is what makes him so human and so memorable to me. The Scot from Glasgow was, by almost every measure, one of the best of his era, and his Hall of Fame induction and OBE confirm it. Sometimes the careers marked by what stayed just out of reach are the ones that linger longest.
