My Take

Dan McCafferty had one of those voices that gives me chills on first listen. As the frontman of Nazareth from 1968, the Dunfermline-born Scot wielded a raw, gravelly rasp that could ache through a ballad like Love Hurts and then erupt into a full-throated scream. What I respect most is the longevity: he held that demanding voice together on the road for nearly half a century until stepping back in 2013. He passed in 2022, but a voice that distinctive does not fade. To me he is proof that character beats polish in rock singing.
