My Take

What strikes me about Daniel Adair is how he embodies the unsung craft of rock drumming. Most people who blast Nickelback through their speakers have no idea who's actually driving that thunderous low end, yet the band's whole sound rests on his timing. I find it telling that he didn't just settle into arena rock after joining in 2005 but kept stretching himself with side projects like Suspect and the fusion outfit Martone. That's the mark of a musician who plays for the love of the instrument, not just the spotlight. To me, Adair is exactly the kind of dependable, range-having pro who makes everyone around him sound better.
