Daniel Lanois

Daniel Lanois is the rare producer whose fingerprints I can hear before I read the credits. Working with Brian Eno, he helped shape ambient music into something atmospheric and alive, then carried that sensibility into landmark records for U2, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, and Emmylou Harris. The Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby simply do not sound the way they do without him. What I admire is his gift for capturing not just performances but entire spaces, drawing the soul out of an artist.
