My Take
Dar Williams is the kind of artist I keep returning to precisely because she never shouts. From Mount Kisco and Wesleyan, she built a body of work, from The Beauty of the Rain to The Green World, that rewards close listening rather than spectacle. Sharing stages with Joan Baez and Ani DiFranco places her squarely in the lineage of serious American songwriting, yet her gift is quieter: lyrics that carry a whole life in a single line. I respect performers who trust their audience to lean in, and Williams does exactly that, with grace and surprising steel.
