My Take
To anyone who grew up on arcades, Ed Boon is a legend, and I count myself among the devoted. Co-creating Mortal Kombat with John Tobias, he didn't just make a fighting game, he detonated a cultural debate about violence in games and, in doing so, helped widen what the medium was allowed to do. What I admire most is the obsession: more than fifteen years at Midway and decades refining a single franchise. That kind of focus is rare. His playful presence with fans online only deepens my respect. He is, to me, the model of a creator who never stopped caring about his own world.
