Éric Boullier

Éric Boullier sits in the part of Formula One I find most underappreciated, the people running the team rather than driving the car. He led Lotus F1 from 2010 to 2013, then took the racing director role at McLaren from 2014 to 2018, two very different challenges in pressure and expectation. The McLaren years were turbulent, and I think his tenure shows how unforgiving that paddock can be when results lag. The Laval native also helped steer the teams' association before it folded. To me he's a study in how hard the management side of this sport really is.
