Felix Baumgartner

Felix Baumgartner occupies a special place in my memory because the 2012 stratosphere jump was one of the few live broadcasts that made me genuinely hold my breath. What I admire is not the daredevilry itself but the discipline behind it: years of preparation compressed into minutes of freefall. A skydiver, soldier, racer, and boxer, he treated fear as raw material rather than an obstacle. His passing in 2025 closed the story, but the image of a lone figure stepping off into the black edge of space remains, to me, one of the defining pictures of human ambition this century. Few people earn the word fearless; he came close.
