My Take

What I respect about Gavin McCann is the quiet honesty of his career. A Blackpool-born midfielder who earned a single England cap, against Spain at Villa Park in 2001, he was never a marquee name, just a tireless engine in the Premier League. To me that one cap matters more than a drawer full of them; it says he reached the summit on merit, however briefly. His move into coaching at Hyde United fits the type perfectly: a grafter who clearly loves the game more than the limelight. I find that kind of unglamorous dedication far more admirable than any highlight reel.
