Gul Panag

Gul Panag is the kind of figure I instinctively root for. She won Femina Miss India Universe in 1999 and went to Miss Universe, yet she clearly refused to be defined by a sash. From modelling she pushed into acting, voice work and even electoral politics, debuting on screen in Nagesh Kukunoor's Dhoop and ranging freely ever since. What strikes me is the restless energy and adventurous streak that runs through her choices. She treats the beauty-queen title as a starting line rather than a finish, and that willingness to keep expanding her own life is exactly what makes her worth watching.
