My Take
I have a soft spot for comedians who are secretly bookworms, and Hakase Suidōbashi is the patron saint of that club. Half of Asakusa Kid was a comic, but the other half was a guy who clearly reads more than most novelists and somehow channels all of it into talk that's faster and sharper than it has any right to be. He has a restless, can't-sit-still energy: stand-up, nonfiction, then a Senate seat in 2022 that he gave up in 2023 after taking leave for depression. He's a small guy, 161cm, but the curiosity is enormous, and I love that he's spent decades treating the whole world as material worth writing down honestly. Earnest, intense, and never bored. I'm a fan of that.
