Henry Padovani

Henry Padovani holds a place in rock history that I find quietly moving. He was the Police's very first guitarist, in the band for only a handful of months in 1977 before Andy Summers took his seat. It would be easy to file him under footnote, but I see him as the man who struck the band's opening notes. There's real dignity in how he kept making music afterward instead of clinging to a brush with fame. The Corsican-born musician reminds me that some of the best stories live just off the main stage, in the people history almost overlooked.
