My Take

Hervé Renard is my idea of a modern football romantic. Never a star player, he reinvented himself as a coach and did the near-impossible, winning the Africa Cup of Nations with Zambia in 2012 and Ivory Coast in 2015, the first to take the title with two different nations. I love that he wins with underdogs, squeezing belief out of squads with limited resources. The crisp white shirt is iconic, but it's the conviction underneath that I rate. He proves that passion and man-management can still beat raw budget, and I find that deeply encouraging.
