Ian Astbury

What draws me to Ian Astbury is the contradiction he carries so well. He's a meat-and-potatoes rock frontman with that huge, weathered baritone, yet he's also a seeker, weaving Native American spirituality and a deep reverence for The Doors into everything he touches. Fronting Manzarek and Krieger in the Doors of the 21st Century could have been a vanity disaster; instead he showed real backbone. I admire singers who chase mystery rather than just volume, and Astbury has spent decades doing exactly that. He's a frontman built on conviction, not flash, and that ages beautifully.
