My Take

Jake Johnson is a deceptively smart performer hiding behind a slacker grin. As Nick Miller he made aimless and lovable inseparable, and his weary, tender Peter B. Parker in Into the Spider-Verse is, for me, definitive voice casting. There's a Midwestern looseness to him that suits the worn-down hero better than any chiseled jaw could. Because he also writes, his comic timing feels instinctive rather than coached. I find myself oddly comforted whenever he turns up; he brings warmth and self-deprecation in equal measure, and that combination is rarer than it looks.
