James Frecheville

James Frecheville won me over with his very first role, the blank, menacing teenager in Animal Kingdom that announced him to the world. What I appreciate about this Melbourne actor is the path he chose afterward, gravitating toward gritty, character-driven films like The Drop and Black '47 rather than chasing glossy blockbusters that would have used him up. He has the kind of shadowed, watchful face that deepens with age, and I suspect his best work is still ahead. To me he reads as a patient craftsman, quietly sharpening his instrument, and that is the type of actor I always want to keep an eye on.
