My Take

Jason Kouchak is the kind of artist I instinctively root for. Born in Lyon and trained at the University of Edinburgh, he straddles French warmth and Scottish gravity, and I suspect that crossing shows up in his playing as real depth. As a pianist, composer and singer-songwriter who still maintains his own website rather than chasing viral noise, he strikes me as a craftsman betting on sincerity over spectacle.
