Jean-Hugues Anglade

Jean-Hugues Anglade is one of those actors who burns so hot on screen that you wonder why the whole world isn't talking about him constantly. His raw, almost feverish performance in Betty Blue is the kind of thing that stays with you for years — he played Zorg as a man being quietly consumed alive, and it felt completely real. Winning the César for Best Supporting Actor for La Reine Margot in 1995 was well-deserved recognition, but honestly his body of work across French cinema deserves more international attention than it gets. There's an intensity he brings that never tips into hamminess, and that's genuinely rare. Being named a Commander of the Order of Arts and Letters puts a formal stamp on what any attentive viewer already knew.
