Jeff Burton

Jeff Burton's nickname, "the Mayor," tells you most of what you need to know, and I love that. A member of the famed Burton racing family from South Boston, Virginia, he won 21 Cup Series races, including two Coca-Cola 600s, yet earned the respect of the garage as much for his decency as his speed. That blend is rarer than people think. His move into commentary feels natural, because he can articulate the nuances only a real racer feels. I admire competitors who win and stay well-liked; balancing fierce ambition with genuine humanity is the trick most people never manage.
