Jesper Grønkjær

Jesper Grønkjær fascinates me simply because of where he started. Being born in Nuuk, Greenland, and rising to play as a Danish international winger across top European clubs is a story you rarely encounter. At 187 cm with genuine pace on either flank, he was the sort of unpredictable wide player defenders dread, and being named Ajax's player of the year in 2000 confirmed he was no novelty act. I also like that he moved into punditry afterward; players who truly read the game often make the sharpest analysts, and his attacking instincts surely sharpen his commentary.
