Jessie Mei Li

Jessie Mei Li feels like an actor still on her way up, and I'm keen to watch the climb. Carrying Shadow and Bone as Alina Starkov is no small task, and she brought both fragility and steel to a protagonist who needed both. Moving between stage, television and film, and appearing in 2025's Havoc, she's building the kind of varied foundation that tends to pay off. As a British East Asian lead in a major franchise, she's also quietly widening what a fantasy hero can look like. I think her best-known role is still ahead of her, and I'm waiting for it.
