Jimmy Bower

Jimmy Bower is exactly the kind of musician I gravitate toward: the versatile workhorse rather than the frontman. Playing guitar in Eyehategod and drums in Down, plus stints with Crowbar, Corrosion of Conformity and Superjoint, he sits at the dense center of New Orleans' sludge and southern metal scene. Switching instruments at a serious level is rare, and his web of overlapping bands shows how deeply collaborative that community is. He is the structural backbone of some genuinely heavy, swampy music, and I have always had more affection for the people holding up the architecture than the ones posing on top of it.
