John Norum

What grabs me about John Norum is the geography: a kid from Vardo, one of the northernmost towns in Norway, ends up co-founding Europe and shaping the sound of a generation of rock guitarists. That kind of distance, both literal and cultural, tends to forge players with real conviction rather than borrowed style. I respect that he never let the band define him entirely, keeping a parallel solo career alive for decades. To me he reads as a craftsman first and a star second, and those are usually the musicians whose playing ages the best and rewards repeat listening.
