My Take

Jonathan Coulton is one of my favorite proofs that wit and music belong together. A Yale graduate turned bard of geek culture, he wrote affectionate, clever songs like Code Monkey and Re: Your Brains, then sealed his legend with Still Alive, the unforgettable Portal end credits. He was also an early master of using the Internet to build a direct relationship with fans, long before that became standard. What I love is the refusal to choose between intelligence, humor and craft; he simply does all three at once. Embracing a niche so completely, he became genuinely irreplaceable.
