My Take

Joshua Bell is one of those rare classical players who can fill a concert hall and still feel approachable, and I always come back to his warm, singing tone. The famous 2007 Washington Post stunt, where he busked incognito in a subway station and almost nobody stopped, says more about how we listen than about him. What I respect most is that he keeps mentoring younger musicians instead of just coasting on the soloist circuit. He plays a Stradivarius, but the magic is in the phrasing, not the wood.
