My Take

Keegan-Michael Key is, to me, proof that great comedy is rigorous acting in disguise. The sketches he built with Jordan Peele earned an Emmy because every absurd character was anchored in real technique, the kind you get from actually studying theater, as he did at the University of Detroit Mercy. What I enjoy most now is his voice work: Toy Story 4, The Lion King, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Wonka. Strip away his face and the precision still lands, which is the surest test of a performer. He makes difficult timing look effortless, and that always wins my respect.
