My Take

Okay, real talk: Ken Griffey Jr. has the sweetest swing I've ever seen, period. That looping, effortless lefty cut looked like art, not labor, and watching "The Kid" rob homers over the wall in center with that backwards cap on felt like the coolest thing in sports. He basically WAS the '90s for a generation of kids, the guy whose name was on the video game and the smile that made baseball fun. I love that he did it the right way too, hanging up massive Gold Gloves and an MVP while the era around him got murky. The Seattle years, the homecoming to Cincinnati, that gorgeous Hall of Fame trajectory, all of it screams natural-born superstar. Easy, joyful greatness. Junior just had it.
