My Take
I'll be honest, what gets me about Ken Shimizu isn't the genre, it's the sheer staying power. Hanging on at the top of any industry for a quarter of a century before retiring takes a kind of grit most people fold under, and from everything he puts out there, he treats his body and training like an athlete in monk mode, which is a wild gap from whatever you'd assume going in. I love that he doesn't hide or apologize for the work, he just talks about his job and his health straight to camera and lets you take it or leave it. There's a settled, unbothered confidence to him that reads very Chiba to me, that no-nonsense local steel. The longevity, the discipline, the refusal to dodge, that's the part I keep respecting.
