Tomohisa Yamashita

I'll be honest, Tomohisa Yamashita is one of those guys who could've coasted forever on that ridiculously handsome face and nobody would've blamed him, but what I respect is that he didn't. A kid out of Funabashi, Chiba, who came up through the idol machine, then kept reaching: acting, singing, even writing his own music, and lately throwing himself into English-language and international roles when he could've just stayed comfortable as a domestic heartthrob. That itch to keep proving himself, to not let "the pretty one" be the whole story, is the part I find genuinely likable. There's a quiet stubbornness under all that polish. I don't know the man, but the trajectory reads like someone allergic to settling, and I'm always a sucker for that.
