My Take
Laurence des Cars genuinely impresses me. To lead the Louvre, having already steered the Orsay and the Orangerie, places her among the most consequential figures in the art world, and she did it as the institution's first woman director. Yet what I find most compelling is not the decorations she has earned but the evident love of looking. Choosing to champion the dreamy, much-maligned Pre-Raphaelites tells me she is no dry academic but someone genuinely besotted with beauty. I trust a museum led by a curator who wants to build bridges to the next generation rather than merely guard the past.
