My Take

Marco Reus is a player I find easy to love and hard to watch without a pang. A Dortmund local who came up through Borussia Dortmund and famously chose loyalty to his hometown club over bigger stages, he won German Footballer of the Year in 2012 and 2019 on raw, electric talent. Yet injuries cruelly denied him the World Cup moments his gifts deserved, and that unfulfilled brilliance is, to me, oddly beautiful. He kept going regardless, the perpetual number eleven who never let bitterness win. Whatever club he plays for now, the image of Reus in yellow is the one I will always keep.
