My Take

Marina Diamandis, who recorded as Marina and the Diamonds before going simply by Marina, is an artist I find genuinely interesting because she never fit neatly into the pop machine. The Welsh singer-songwriter built a devoted following on the strength of her own writing, and that 2010 MTV Europe Music Award for Best UK and Ireland Act came early enough to mark her as one to watch. I respect that she's described as a poet and record producer too, not just a vocalist. Her all-caps styling and shifting personas feel like an artist who treats each era as a deliberate statement rather than a marketing reset.
