My Take

What draws me to Marko Gobeljic is that he represents the unglamorous backbone of football. A right back from Kraljevo plying his trade in the Serbian SuperLiga is never going to top a transfer-rumor headline, yet these are the players who actually win matches. At 185 cm he has the frame to defend, and the longevity to keep showing up season after season says plenty about his discipline. I have a soft spot for full backs who do the dirty work without applause. Gobeljic strikes me as exactly that kind of dependable craftsman, and I find quiet careers like his genuinely admirable.
