My Take
Marty Bracey is a name most casual listeners won't know, but to Japanese music heads he's a legend behind the kit. What I find fascinating is that this American drummer built his entire career in Japan, playing for Minako Honda, Junko Yagami, Junko Ohashi, and even Kenji Ozawa. He was part of Omega Tribe and Monta & Brothers too, which puts him right at the heart of the city-pop and J-pop scene. To me he represents the unsung session musicians who shape a country's sound while staying invisible to the spotlight. A craftsman's craftsman, and exactly the kind of figure I love digging up.
